BERNHARD MUELLER, foreign
memeber of AESS from 2007., Director
of the Institute of Ecological and Regional Development (IOER) Dresden and Professor for Spatial Development
Research at the Dresden University of Technology, was born on March 18, 1952 in Saarbrücken. He studied Geography and
Mathematics at the Department of Geography at the Johannes
Gutenberg-University, Mainz, where he graduated in 1978 with the MSc degree. From 1978
to 1979 as a Research
Assistant at the Institute of Geography, University of Mainz he undertook field
work in Mexico. In
1983 he obtained PhD degree (Dr. rer. nat.) at the same University. He worked as a
Research Associate at the Institute of Regional Planning and Spatial Research, University of Hanover from 1979 till 1993, in which period he also conducted field work in Malaysia for one year (1985-1987). In 1993, at the Faculty of Landscape Architecture and
Environmental Development at the University of Hanover he finished his
habilitation with a second PhD degree (Dr. rer. hort. habil.). From 1988 to
1992 he also worked as a project leader in Yemen for German Technical
Cooperation (GTZ). Since 1993 he is a Professor at Dresden University of
Technology, where he has been Director of the Chair of Regional Planning till
2000 and Director of the Chair of Spatial Development Research from 2001 till
today. Since 1997 he is Executive Director at Leibniz Institute of Ecological and Regional
Development, IOER, Dresden. In 2004 he was awarded honorary PhD at the University of Technology of Bratislava, Slovakia.

He is also a reviewer for many journals, among them Land Use Policy and Building Research and Information. Prof. Müller has been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses at University of Hanover, Department of Landscape Planning from 1979 till 1993. Since 1993 he has been a Professor at Dresden University of Technology. He also has been an External Examiner at Salford University, UK.
He was awarded AESOP Excellence in Teaching Prize 2006 (Association of European Schools of Planning) for his international exchange programme on sustainable urban-regional development with the Ohio State University (OSU), USA. He has worked as a researcher in many national and international projects. He has refereed a large number of journal papers which were published in international periodicals, as well as book chapters, books and proceeding papers. He has been an evaluator and reviewer of many national and international projects in different European countries, e.g. Switzerland, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. Besides teaching in the university, he was working and doing research in Europe (including Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe), USA, Russia, Mexico, Chile, Guyana, Malaysia, Yemen, Tanzania, and Ethiopia in the fields of spatial / urban-regional development and planning; environmental planning; governance, networking, institutional aspects of spatial development and collaborative planning; land use change and urban-rural linkages; demographic change; European integration and cohesion; international development co-operation.
БЕРНАРД МИЛЕР, инострани члан АИНС, директор Института за еколошки и регионални развој (ИОР) у Дрездену и професор истраживања просторног развоја на Технолошком Универзитету у Дрездену, рођен је 18. марта 1952. године у Сарбрикену.
Студирао је географију и математику на Одсеку за географију на Универзитету Јохан Гутенберг у Маинцу, који је завршио 1978 са титулом мастера. Од 1978 до 1979 као истраживач-асистент на Институту за географију на Унивезитету у Маинцу бавио се истраживачким радом у Мексику. На истом универзитету је 1983. године докторирао. Од 1979. до 1993. радио је као истраживач-сарадник у Институту за регионално планирање и истраживање простора на Универзитету у Хановеру, у ком периоду је годину дана (1985-1987) боравио и истраживао у Малезији. На Факултету за пејзажну архитектуру и еколошки развој Универзитета у Хановеру је 1993. одбранио други докторат. У периоду од 1988 до 1992 радио је за Немачку техничку сарадњу (GTZ) као вођа пројекта у Јемену. Од 1993. године запослен је као професор на Технолошком универзитету (ТУ) у Дрездену, где је био директор Катедре за регионално планирање до 2000. и директор Катедре за истраживање просторног развоја од 2001. до данас. Од 1997. године он је Извршни директор Лајбниц института за еколошки и регионални развој у Дрездену. Године 2004. добио је почасни докторат Технолошког универзитета у Братислави.

Радио је као истраживач на многим националним и међународним пројектима. Објави оје велики број радова у међународним часописима, као и поглавља у књигама, књиге и радове на конференцијама. Био је оцењивач и рецензент многих националних и међународних пројеката у разним Европским земљама, нпр. Швајцарска, Холандија, Норвешка и Шведска. Поред предавања на универзитету, радио је и бавио се истраживањем у Европи (укључујући Централну, Источну и Југоисточну Европу), САД, Русију, Мексико, Чиле, Гвајану, Малезију, Јемен, Танзанијуи Етиопију у областима: просторног / урбаног-регионалног развоја и планирања, управљања, сарадње, институционалних аспеката просторног развоја и колаборативног планирања, промена у коришћењу земљишта и урбано-руралних веза, демографских промена, Европских интеграција и кохезије, међународне сарадње у развоју.
