KLIMENT NIKOLAEVICH TRUBETSKOY, Foreign Member of the AESS, full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is a prominent scientist in the field of mining. Education: Graduate from the Moscow Institute of Non-ferrous Metals and Gold “M.I. Kalinjin” (1961). Doctor of technical sciences, Professor, (1987-2003), Director of the Institute of the Problems of Complex Exploitation of Mineral Wealth of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Academician and Member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, since 2003, adviser Presidium RAS and holder of Chair Russian State University of Geological Prospecting and also chief researcher of the Institute of the Problems of Complex Exploitation of Mineral Wealth RAS.

He authored more than 700 scientific and professional papers published in Russia and abroad, 34 monographs, 4 textbooks, 25 brochures and 75 inventions and patents.

Academician Trubetskoy is the originator of new engineering and philosophical views on modern mining science as a system of knowledge about regularities and possibilities of management of technogenic changes of mineral wealth of the Earth. He created scientific foundations of the highly-productive technologies for surface exploitation of mineral deposit, giving thus essential contribution to the development of new technological solutions that take into account the necessity of the environmental protection.

Academician Trubetskoy is the head of the leading scientific school in Russia dealing with the problems of complex utilization of and protection of mineral wealth of the Earth, the school which is based on the three fundamental principles: study of the regularities of technogenic evolution of the working environment in the exploitation of mineral resources, elaboration of theoretical foundations and methods of complex assessment of utilization and environmental protection, optimization of physical and technical parameters of geotechnologies. Many of his pupils are presently members of the Academy of Mining Sciences, and 33 of them earned M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees.

The scientific and organizational activity of Academician Trubetskoy is really fruitful and multifarious. For a number of years he has been a member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy Academician – Secretary of the Section of Geological, Geophysical and Geochemical Sciences of the Academy; since 2002 he has been a member of the Bureau of the Section of Earth Sciences of the Academy; he is heading the Scientific Council of the Academy and the Federal Scientific Programme “Ecologically Clean Energetics”, as well as the scientific project concerned with the fundamental research and technological development under auspices of the Ministry of Economy, Science and Technology and Ministry of Education of Russia.

From 1978 to 1992 he was head of the expert council of the High Certification Commission of the USSR for surface exploitation of solid mineral deposits, and since 2002 he is the chairman of the Section for exploitation of solid mineral deposits of the Expert Council of Earth Sciences of the Education in Mining of the Russian Federation.

Academician Trubetskoy is Vice-president of the Earth Science Section of the State Commission for Awards of the President of Russian Federation, Chairman of the Geology and Mining Section for Awards of the Government of Russian Federation, member of the Science and Technology Council of the State Surveillance of Russia, founder and editor-in-chief of the journal “Surface Exploitation”, associate editor and member of the editorial board of the journals “Miner’s Herald”, “Physico-technical Problems of Exploitation of Mineral Resources” and “Miner’s Journal”.

He was a winner at the 1977 contest “SGN: Manager of the Year – 100 Leaders in Economy and Science”. He is the holder of a number of state awards of the USSR and Russian federation, the most important being: Award of the Government of Russian Federation for the field of science and technology, Award of the President of Russian Federation for the field of education the gold medal “N.V. Mel’nikov” of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Besides, he is a winner of the decoration for the “Merits for the Fatherland”, and many others. Since 1992 he has been a permanent member of the International Organizational Committee of the World Mining Congress and the winner of the medal “B. Krupinski” of this organization for the year 1997.

Дипломирао је на Московском институту за обојене метале и злато „М.И. Калињин“ (1961). Доктор техничких наука, професор (1987-2003), директор Института за проблеме комплексног освајања рудних богатстава Земље Руске академије наука, академик и члан Председништва Руске академије наука од 2003, саветник председништва Руске академије наука и шеф Катедре за геолошку проспекцију Државног Универзитета Русије. Водећи истраживач института за проблеме комплексног освајања рудних богатстава Земље Руске академије наука.

Академик Трубецкој је творац нових инжењерских и филозофских погледа на савремену рударску науку као система знања о закономерностима и могућностима управљања техногеним променама рудних богатстава Земље. Креирао је научне основе високо-производних технологија за површинску експлоатацију минералних сировина, где је дао значајан допринос у развоју нових производних и технолошких решења и заштити животне средине.

Академик Трубецкој је родоначелник водеће научне школе у Русији о комплексном освајању и заштити рудних богатстава Земље, школе која се заснива на три основна принципа: Изучавање закономерности техногене еволуције радне средине при освајању минералних ресурса; Разрада теоријских основа и метода комплексне оцене освајања и очувања радне средине; Оптимизација физичко-техничких параметара геотехнологија. Многи ученици његове школе данас су чланови Руске академије наука, а 33 су доктори и магистри наука.

Плодна је и разноврсна научно-организациона делатност К. Н. Трубецкоја. Дугогодишњи је члан Председништва Руске академије наука; заменик је секретара Одељења геолошких, геофизичких и геохемијских наука Руске академије наука; од 2002. године је члан Бироа Одељења наука о Земљи Руске академије наука; руководи Научним саветом Руске академије наука и Федералним научним програмом „Еколошки чиста енергетика” као и научним пројектом фундаменталних истраживања и технолошког развоја Министарства привреде, науке и технологије и Министарства образовања Русије.

Од 1978. до 1992. године био је на челу експертског савета Високе атестационе комисије СССР-а за површинску експлоатацију чврстих минералних сировина, а од 2002. године је председник Секције за експлоатацију лежишта чврстих минералних сировина Експертског савета наука о Земљи ВАК рударског образовања Руске Федерације.

Академик Трубецкој је подпредседник Секције „Науке о Земљи” Комисије за државне награде претседника Руске Федерације, претседник Секције „Геологија и рударство” за доделу награда Владе Руске федерације, члан је Научно-техничког савета државног надзора Русије, покретач је и главни уредник часописа „Површинска експлоатација”, заменик је уредника и члан редакције часописа: „Рударски весник”, „Физичко-технички проблеми експлоатације минералних сировина” и „Рударски журнал”.

Лауреат је на конкурсу „СГН - Директор године - 100 лидера привреде и науке заједно” за 1977. годину. Добитник је многих државних награда СССР и Руске Федерације међу којима су најзначајније: Награда Владе Руске Федерације за област науке и технике, Награда претседника Руске Федерације за област образовања, Златна медаља „Н.В. Мељников” Академије наука СССР. Носилац је одликовања „Заслуге за домовину” и многих других. Од 1992. године стални је члан Међународног организационог комитета Светског рударског конгреса и носилац медаље „Б. Крупински” за 1997. годину ове организације.
