ДРАГАН ШКОРИЋ, редовни члан АИНС од 2000. године, рођен је 16.09.1937. године у Ведашићу, Кореница, Хрватска, од оца Михајла и мајке Даре, рођене Вукобратовић. Осмогодишњу школу је завршио у Бачком Брестовцу, а гимназију у Сомбору. Дипломирао је на Пољопривредном факултету- ратарски смер у Новом Саду 1963. године. Године 1964. се запослио у Институту за пољопривредна истраживања (садашњи Институт за ратарство и повртарство) Нови Сад, као асистент на оплемењивању сунцокрета.

Магистарске студије из области генетике и оплемењивања биља завршио је 1968., а докторску дисертацију из области генетике и оплемењивања сунцокрета је одбранио на Пољопривредном факултету у Новом Саду 1975. године. На Пољопривредном факултету у Новом Саду је изабран на предмету Оплемењивање биљака и Семенарство у звање доцента 1978., ванредног професора 1983., а за редовног професора 1990. године.

Завршио је шестомесечну специјализацију из области генетике уљаних култутра на Универзитету Giessen, Немачка 1968. године. На краћим специјализацијама је боравио у САД, Француској, СССР, Румунији и Шпанији. Од 1980. па све до 2006. године када је отишао у пензију био је управник Завода за уљане културе у Институту за ратарство и повртарство. У истом институту је био у два наврата председник Управног одбора. Сада је члан Националног савета за науку и технолошки развој Р. Србије. Такође, у ранија два сазива био је члан овог републичког тела. Био је директор Националног програма „Биотехнологија и Агроиндустрија“ (2003-2006. године). За дописног члана Српске академије наука и уметности (Београд) изабран је 2003. године. У САНУ је председник Одбора за флору и вегетацију Србије. Од 2000. године редовни је члан Академије инжењерских наука Србије. На међународном плану проф. др Драган Шкорић је веома активан. Од 1989. године је координатор FAO- European Cooperative Research Network on Sunflower (Rome, Italy). Члан је извршног одбора ISA (Међународне асоцијације о сунцокрету). Такође, представник је наше земље у Извршном одбору EUCARPIA (Европска асоцијација оплемењивања). Главни и одговорни је уредник међународног часописа о сунцокрету HELIA. Члан је уредништва домаћих часописа „Архив за пољопривредне науке“ и „Генетике“.

Проф. др Драган Шкорић је добио велик број домаћих и међународних награда и признања. Међу њима су најважније: Награда међународне асоцијације о сунцокрету- ISA Pustovoit Award (1988); Certificat of Appreciation, Министарства за пољопривреду САД за успешну реализацију заједничких пројеката (1987); Friendship Award Владе Н.Р. Кине (2006) и Владе Jilin Province, Н.Р. Кина (2005); признање Министарства за пољопривреду Мађарске „Kivalo Munkaert“; диплому Pioneer Hi-Bred International за унапређење генетике сунцокрета на међународном плану (САД-2000); Првомајску награду рада СФРЈ (1980); Орден заслуга за народ са сребрном звездом, Председништво СФРЈ (1988); Октобарску награду Новог Сада (1995) и друга признања.

Проф. др Драган Шкорић током свог 42-годишњег научног рада постигао је светске вредне резултате из области генетике, опленмењивања и семенарства сунцокрета. Сам или са другим ауторима објавио је две књиге на енглеском језику, две књиге на српском језику, 6 поглавља у монографијама и 310 научних радова. Са рефератима је учествовао на преко 50 међународних скупова. Предавања по позиву је одржао у преко 20 земаља у свету. Од стране FAO (Рим) је био ангажован на изради студија у Индији и Судану у вези унапређења уљаних култура. Министарство за науку Индије га је ангажовало да оцени њихов национални програм на сунцокрету. Руководио је програмом оплемењивања сунцокрета на пројекту „Унапређење уљаних култура у Ирану“ (1970-1978). У периоду од 1972-1991. године руководио је са 3 пројекта са САД и био учесник на још два. Руководио је једним пројектом који се реализовао са INRA-Француска. Био је руководилац 4 домаћа пројекта и учествовао у реализацији још 9 пројеката.

Посебно треба истаћи резултате које је остварио проф. др Драган Шкорић у оплемењивању сунцокрета. Главни је аутор или коаутор 50 хибрида који су признати у нашој земљи. У сарадњи са страним партнерима створио је у свету 78 заједничких хибрида. У другим земљама му је признато 129 новосадских хибрида. Најбољи показатељ доприноса проф. др Драгана Шкорића у оплемењивању сунцокрета је да у 2006. години са његовим и заједничким хибридима у свету је било засејано преко 2 милиона хектара, односно преко 10% од укупне светске производње сунцокрета.

Значајне резултате је остварио проф. др Драган Шкорић и у наставној делатности у оквиру редовних и магистарских студија својим предавањима из области генетике, оплемењивања и семенарства сунцокрета. Био је ментор за оцену и израду 7 магистарских теза и 3 докторске дисертације. Такође, био је члан комисије за одбрану већег броја магистарских теза и докторских дисартација. Учествовао је у комисијама за одбрану докторских дисертација у Украјини, Молдавији и Хрватској.

Ожењен је и има два сина. Живи са породицом у Новом Саду.

DRAGAN ŠKORIĆ, full member AESS from 2000., (father — Mihajlo; mother — Dara (maiden name — Vukobratović)) was born on September 16, 1938 in Vedašić near Korenica, Croatia. He finished primary school in Bački Brestovac and secondary school in Sombor. In 1963, he graduated from the Novi Sad Faculty of Agriculture with field crops as his main subject. In 1964, he began working as Assistant in sunflower breeding at the Institute for Agricultural Research in Novi Sad, which has since become the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops.

Prof. Škorić got his MSc degree in Plant Genetics and Breeding at the Novi Sad Faculty of Agriculture in 1968 and defended his PhD thesis on sunflower genetics and breeding at the same faculty in 1975. In 1978, Prof. Škorić became Assistant Professor of Plant Breeding and Seed Science at the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad. In 1983, he was elected Associate Professor in the same subject, while in 1990 he received full professorship.

In 1968, Prof. Škorić took a six-month specialization course in oil crops genetics at the University of Giessen, Germany. In addition, he has attended a number of shorter specialization programs in the U.S., France, Spain, U.S.S.R. and Romania.

From 1980 until his retirement in 2006, Prof. Škorić was Head of the Oil Crops Department of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad. He has also served two terms as President of the Institute’s Board of Directors. He is a member of the Council for Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia and has been member of this body in its previous two terms as well. Between 2003 and 2006, Prof. Škorić was Director of the National Biotechnology and Agroindustry Program. Prof. He has been Full Member of the Yugoslav Engineering Academy since 2000 and and has also been Corresponding Member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) in Belgrade since 2003. At the SASA, he is President of the Committee for Serbian Flora and Plant Life.

Prof. Škorić is an active member of the international scientific community as well. Since 1989, he has been Coordinator of the FAO European Cooperative Research Network on Sunflower (Rome, Italy). His scientific achievements earned him membership on the Executive Committee of ISA (International Sunflower Association) and he has also been the representative of Serbia on the Executive Committee of EUCARPIA (a European association of plant breeders). Prof. Škorić is editor-in-chief of the international sunflower journal Helia and is also member of the editorial boards of the scientific journals Genetics and Agricultural Science Archives.

Prof. Škorić's work has won him a number of domestic and international awards. The most important among them are the Pustovoit Award, given by the International Sunflower Association for outstanding contribution to the development of science (1988); the Certificate of Appreciation, awarded by the US Department of Agriculture for the successful completion of joint projects with USDA (1987); the Friendship Award of the Government of PR China (2006) and the Friendship Award of the Government of Jilin Province of PR China (2005); the “Kivalo Munkaert” Award, given by the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture (1981); the Diploma of the Pioneer Hi-Bred International company, given for contribution to the advancement of sunflower genetics on an international level (2000); the “Prvomajska nagrada” Award, Yugoslavia (1980); The “Orden zasluga za narod sa srebrnom zvezdom”, Yugoslavia (1988); the “Oktobarska nagrada” Award, Novi Sad, Yugoslavia (1995); and others.

In the course of his 42-year career, Prof. Škorić has achieved globally important results in the fields of sunflower genetics, breeding, and seed science. He has published two books in the English language and two in Serbian and has authored or co-authored six book chapters and 310 scientific papers in total. He has presented his papers on more than 50 international scientific gatherings and has appeared as an invited speaker in over 20 countries. For FAO (Rome), he has completed studies on the advancement of oil crops production in India and Sudan. The Indian Ministry of Science appointed him as an official evaluator of their national sunflower program. He was the leader of the sunflower breeding program within a project on the advancement of oil crops in Iran carried out from 1970 to 1978. Between 1972 and 1991, Prof. Škorić led three joint joint projects with USDA-ARS (U.S.A.) and has also participated in two more such projects. He also led a sunflower wild species project carried out jointly with INRA, France. He actively participated in the realization of 13 domestic research projects and was the leader of four of them.

Particularly noteworthy is Prof. Škorić's contribution to sunflower breeding. His achievements in developing sunflower hybrids have made him one of the the most well-known sunflower breeders in the world. He has developed or co-developed over 50 sunflower hybrids that have been released in Serbia and 129 that have been released in various countries abroad. Together with various partner organizations from foreign countries, he has also developed 78 joint hybrids. In 2006, by way of illustration, Prof. Škorić's hybrids and the joint hybrids were grown on over 2 million hectares worldwide, which is 10% of the world’s total acreage in sunflower.

Prof. Škorić was the mentor of three PhD and seven MSc candidates and a member of committees responsible for the completion and defence of a number of other PhD and MSc thesis in Serbia, Ukraine, Moldova and Croatia.

Prof. Škorić is married and has two sons. He lives with his family in Novi Sad.
