јуна 1921. године
у Мошорину
(Србија).
Студије: Студирао медицину у Паризу (1945-1949). Дипломирао на Медицинском факултету Београдског универзитета (1949). Докторирао на Факултету природних наука Universite Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium у области физиолошких наука (1955). Обавио постдокторске студије у Центру за генетику, Cold Spring Harbor, САД (1955).
Професионална активност: Доцент (1957), ванредни професор (1963) и редовни професор биохемије на Природно-математичком факултету Универзитета у Београду (1970-1987). Професор по позиву у САД (1956, 1965, 1968-69) у Белгији (1964, 1965) и у Јапану (1967).
Руководилац Лабораторије за биологију (1950-1965) и Лабораторије за молекуларну биологију и ендокринологију Института нуклеарних наука Винча (1968-1974), научни саветник исте институције (1974- до данас) и председник Управног одбора истог Института (1994 – до данас).
Члан Комисије за нуклеарну енергију СФРЈ (1956-1965). Експерт Међународне агенције за атомску енергију у Атомском центру у Буенос Аиресу (1962). Подпредседник Југословенске секције Пагваш конференција о научним и светским питањима (1959-1961). Члан Југословенске лиге за мир, једнакост и равноправност народа (1960-1965). Члан Фонда за науку СФРЈ (1961-1971) и Фонда за науку СР Србије (1971). Председник Државне комисије Србије за заштиту од зрачења (1990). Председник Савета Фонда за науку Републике Србије (1993-1994) и члан Савета за научну политику Републике Србије (1994-до данас). Члан Српског центра Европског друштва културе (1986 – до данас) и председник Друштва српско-грчког пријатељства (1991-1996).
Чланство у академијама, научним и професионалним организацијама: Дописни (1961) и потом редовни члан Српске академије наука и уметности (1968), и њен подпредседник (1971-1981), односно председник (1981-1994). Инострани члан Атинске академије наука (1975) и Индијске националне академије наука (1986).
Члан Извршног одбора Међународног друштва за биологију ћелије (1961-1968); члан Почасног уређивачког одбора Међународног часописа за фотохемију и фотобиологију (1962-1968). Члан председништва Европског друштва за радиобиологију (1965-1968); члан Научног консултативног савета Фондације CIBA у Лондону (1970-1987). Уредник Јапанског часописа за истраживање радијације (1980).
Најважнији научни резултати: Научноистраживачким радом у области молекуларне биологије и биохемије добијени су подаци о механизму деловања зрачења, о структури и функцији стероидног рецептора, о улози психосоцијалних стресова у настајању рака. Резултати су објављени у преко 200 радова. Изабрани радови: “Radiation Induced Alterations in the Structure of Deoxyribonucleic Acid and Biological Consequences” (1969); “The Role of Steroid Receptors in the Regulation and Integration of Steroid and Peptide Hormone Actions in Common Target Cells” (1982); “Glucocorticoid Receptor and Hormonal Extragenomic Effects” (1990); “Psychosocial (Emotional) Stress. Steroid Hormone and the Genesis of Cancer. Molecular Aspects” (1993).
Награде и признања: Орден рада са црвеном заставом (1961, 1988); Седмојулска награда (1961);Орден заслуга за народ са златном звездом (1965); Награда АВНОЈ-а за научна достигнућа (1970); Орден братства и јединства са златним венцем (1976); Орден Командира Легије части (1984); Плакета града Београда (1984); Плакета Београдског универзитета поводом његове 150-годишњице (1988); Плакета Института за примену нуклеарне енергије у пољопривреди, ветеринарству и шумарству (1988); Плакета и Повеља Медицинског факултета у Нишу поводом његове 35-годишњице (1996).
DUŠAN KANAZIR, Honorary Member of AESS from 1999, Emeritus Professor, Faculty of Sciences, University of Belgrade, Full Member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, was born on June 28, 1921, in Mošorin (Serbia).
Education: Studied medicine in Paris (1945-1949). Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade (1949). Received Ph.D. in physiology from Universite Libre de Bruxelles,
Belgium (1955). Postdoctoral studies at the Genetics Center, Cold Spring Harbor, USA (1955). Professional activity: Assistant (1957), Associate (1963) and Full Professor (1970-1987) at the Department of Molecular Biology, Faculty of Sciences, University of Belgrade. Professor by invitation in USA (1956, 1965, 1968-1969), Belgium (1964, 1965) and Japan (1967). Head of Laboratory of Endocrinology (1950-1965) and Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Endocrinology, Institute of Nuclear Sciences Vinča (1968-1974), Science Counsellor, the same Laboratory and Institute (1970-1987), President of the Executive Board of the same Institute (1994- today)., Member, Federal Commission on Nuclear Energy of former Yugoslavia (1956-1965); Expert, International Atomic Agency, Vienna, and Atomic Center, Buenos Aires (1962). Vicepresident, Yugoslav Section of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs (1959-1961); Member, Yugoslav League for Peace, Equality and Independence (1960-65); Member, Research Council of Yugoslavia (1969-1971) and Research Council of Serbia (1971). President, State Commission for Radiation Protection of Serbia (1990). President, Council of Science Funds of Serbia (1993-1994). Member, Science Policy Council of Serbia (1994-today). Member, Serbian Center of the European Society of Culture (1986-today). President, Society of Serbian-Greek Friendship (1991-today).
Membership in Academies of Sciences, Scientific and Professional Organizations: Corresponding (1961) and Full Member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (1968), Vice-president (1971- 81) and President of that Academy (1981-1994). Foreign Member of the Academy of Athens (1975) and of the Indian National Science Academy (1986). Member of Executive Council, International Society of Cell Biology (1961-1968). Member of Honorary Editorial Board, International Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology (1962-1968)
Member of Presidency, European Society of Radiobiology (1956-1968). Member of Scientific Consultation Council, the CIBA Foundation, London (1970-1987). Editor, Journal of Radiation Research of Japan (1980). Most important scientific results: Long-term research in molecular biology and biochemistry yielded information on the mechanism of radiation effect, on the structure and function of steroid receptor, and on the role of psychosocial stresses in the cancer genesis. The results were published in more than 200 papers.
