GEORGI M. DIMIROVSKI, Foreign Member of AESS from 2004, was born on December 20, 1941 in Greece, village Nestram in Aegean Macedonia, and since 1948 has been living along with his family in Skopje. Currently, he is a Life-time Professor of Automation & Systems Engineering (since January 1992) at SS Cyril & Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia, a Professor of Computer Science & Information Technologies (since February 2001) at Dogus University, Istanbul, and an invited Professor of Systems & Control Science at Istanbul Technical University (since January 2004), Turkey.

He obtained his degrees B.Sc in EE from (his home) SS Cyril & Methodius University of Skopje, Republic of Macedonia in 1966, and M.Sc. in FEE from University of Belgrade, Republic of Serbia in 1974. In 1977, he was awarded Ph.D. by Research in Control & Computing Engineering from University of Bradford, England, UK, where also he spent his postdoctoral studies in 1979. He moved to academia in 1969 as a junior assistant of Automatic Control & Computing Machines at then Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Faculty in Skopje He was promoted to ranks of senior assistant, assistant professor, associate professor, and full professor in 1972, 1975, 1980, and 1985, respectively. Within the FEE, after his promotion in 1985, he has initiated and founded the Institute of Automation & Systems Engineering (ASE Institute).Nowadays this institute of the FEE in Skopje employs 6 full-time academic staff. He has initiated and conducted 5 national research projects in systems and control engineering and one in applied computational intelligence in his home country. Dr. Dimirovski has been an invited Visiting Professor at the University of Bradford in 1984 and 1986. For one semester of the academic year 1979/80, he was an invited Visiting Professor within the M.Sc program in Engineering Cybernetics at Technological Faculty in Zagreb. He held a position of an invited Senior Fellow & Visiting Professor at Free University of Brussels, Belgium, in 1994, and at Johannes Kepler University of Linz, Austria, in 2000.

During the last 25 years, he has had a number of longer or shorter term invited academic visits with seminars to universities in Aalborg, Ankara, Bitola, Bochum, Bradford, Brussels, Coimbra, Covilha, Duisburg, Hannover, Istanbul, Izmir, Linz, Lisbon, London, Ljubljana, Maribor, Nis, Novi Sad, Shenyang, Split, Valencia, Wien, Wolverhampton, Zagreb, and Zurich. Within his long cooperation with Academician Vukobratovic, he has had several short academic visits with seminars to Mihailo Pupin Institute of Belgrade. In 1987, Prof. Dimirovski was one of the few then Yugoslav authors having their research cited and commented in M. G. Singh (Editor-in-Chief) Systems and Control Encyclopaedia: Theory, Technology, Applications published by Pergamon Press, Oxford, and the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC).

In the late eighties, at ASE Institute in Skopje, he has introduced (and conducted till 2001) systematic research on supervisory control in areas of flexible manufacturing systems and autonomous mobile robots following the encouragement and co-operative support by Academician Vukobratovic. This research at ASE Institute was recognized, and also continued by his former doctoral students. He has had several long-lasting academic co-operations with colleagues abroad. Among these, in the early period is the one with Universities of Bradford and Wolverhampton, UK, and in the recent period is the one with Northeastern University of Shenyang, P.R. of China. In both cases he has also served as a scientific advisor to several Ph.D and M.Sc. students of his colleague-partners there.

During 1995-99, Prof. Dimirovski has participated in the European Science Foundation Scientific Programme on Control of Complex Systems (COSY) under the leadership of Professors K. J. Astroem and M. Thoma, along with his post-doctoral fellow and graduate students. Also, he served on the COSY Steering Committee, and has organized the 1998 Annual Joint COSY Workshop in Ohrid and Skopje.

He was the technical program chairman and editor of four volumes of the IFAC Series and of one of the IEEE Series. He has published 5 contributed chapters in research monographs and more than 30 journal papers, and more than 200 conference papers in IFAC and IEEE proceedings alone. Most of his works are devoted to applications of advanced control and computing methods to systems engineering for complex controlled objects. Prof. Dimirovski has served to Yugoslav Association for ETAN since 1975 until 1991 in various capacities, and was the acting President of ETAN for 3 terms during 1985-1991. Among other services to ETAN, he organized ETAN Conferences in Ohrid, in 1975 and 1991, and in Struga, in 1983, as well as for the 1982 IFAC Workshop in Ohrid, conducted and organized under auspices of the ETAN. He was the initiator and founder of the ETAI Society, in 1981, then a part of the Yugoslav Association for ETAN, and now Macedonian IFAC NMO. He served three terms in the capacity of ETAI president. In 1996, he joined Prof. Goce Arsov collaborating on the foundation the IEEE Republic of Macedonia Section. He served as the President of Association of Engineers of Macedonia during two terms 1991-98; then its present re-organization was conceptualized and implemented.

During 1988-1993, Prof. Dimirovski served to European Science Foundation in the Executive Council and in other capacities. During 1996-2002 he served to the IFAC as the Vice-Chair of the TC 9.3 on Developing Countries (DECOM). Currently, he is the acting chairman of IFAC TC 9.3. He has served on the IPC’s for many IFAC, IEEE and ECC conferences, as well as the Programme Committee of many ETAN conferences, and for others too. In the year 2000 he was honoured by election as Acting Chairman of European Professors of Automatic Control (an informal sub-committee within the IFAC TC on Education) and organized the 2000 EPAC Conference in Skopje. He served in capacities Co-Chairman of 2000 IFAC SWIIS, and of 2001, 2003 and 2004 IFAC DECOM-TT conferences. Also, he was Technical Programme Chairman of the 2003 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA) of IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS), held in Istanbul. In addition, he has conceptualized and founded the series of ETAI International Symposia on Applied Automatic Systems (AAS), and was the Chairman of AAS 1993 and AAS 2003. He has been an invited plenary speaker of ETAN, as well as at several other international and national conferences in the former SFR Yugoslavia, and more recently in Bulgaria, Macedonia and Turkey, among which three of the IFAC.During the last 25 years, he has supervised successfully 2 postdoctoral, 15 Ph.D. and 25 M.Sc. as well as more than 250 graduation student projects. Now, a number of his graduation students as well as 2 M.Sc. and 5 Ph.D. students are working and living in technologically developed countries worldwide. He has served in capacity of external evaluation and examiner for Ph.D. and M.Sc. theses at universities of Bradford, Ljubljana, Sofia, Wolverhampton, and Zagreb. Prof. Dimirovski has developed a number of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in various areas of control and automation as well as others in robotics, in applied numerical, fuzzy-system and neural-network computing, and in operations research at his home university in Skopje, and also at the universities in Bitola, Bradford, Istanbul, Linz, and Zagreb. He has served on the Editorial Boards of Proceedings Instn. Mech. Engrs. Pt. I - J. of Systems & Control Engineering (UK), of Automatika (former SFR of Yugoslavia), of Information Technologies & Control J. (Sofia, Bulgaria). Currently he is serving in the Editorial Boards of Facta Universitatis J. of Electronics & Energetics (Nis, Serbia and Montenegro), of IU J. of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (Istanbul), and of International J. of Computational Intelligence (Canakkale, Turkey).

Georgi Dimirovski was a recipient of the following awards for scientific research: ETAN in 1974

on Automatic Control, and in 1990 on Robotics and Flexible Automation; 1983 City of Skopje Award for Applied Sciences; and 1993 “Research-in-Brussels”.

ГЕОРГИ МАРКО ДИМИРОВСКИ, инострани члан АИНС од 2004. године, рођен је 20. 12. 1941. у Грчкој, у месту Нестрам у Јегејској Македонији, а од 1948. живи у Скопју заједно са породицом. Од 1992. је доживотни професор аутоматике и системског инжењерства на Универзитету “Свети Ћирило и Методије”, Скопје, и професор компјутерских наука и информационих технологија (од 2001) на Универзитету Dogus у Истамбулу, а такође и професор по позиву на Истамбулском техничком универзитету и Универзитету Yedipe у Истамбулу од 2003. Овим редом је стицао високо образовање и научне квалификације: дипломирани инжењер електротехнике на Универзитету “Св. Ћирило и Методије” у Скопју, магистар електротехнике на Универзитету у Београду, 1966. и 1974; докторат из домена аутоматског управљања и рачунарства на Универзитету у Bradford, Енглеска, 1977. Универзитетском раду се посветио 1969, три године након рада у индустрији, као млађи асистент за аутоматско управљање и рачунарство, на тада Елактротехичком и машинском факултету (ЕМФ) у Скопју. Поступно је унапређиван у виша звања, 1972, 1975, 1980, и 1985. Те исте године је и основао Институт за аутоматику и системско инжењерство на Електротехничком факултету, који данас има 6 сталних чланова са академским звањима.

На Универзитету у Bradford, Димировски је учествовао у последипломској настави 1979, а касније је имао положај професора по позиву 1984. и 1986. У академској години 1979/80. години био је визитинг професор на магистарским студијама из техничке кибернетике на Технолошком факултету у Загребу. Године 1994. је имао положај “Senior Fellow” и професор по позиву на Слободном универзитету у Бриселу, а 2000. исти положај на Универзитету Johanes Kepler у Линцу, Аустрија. Професор Димировски је имао неколико дужих академских сарадњи са колегама у иностранству. У ранијем периоду то су биле сарадње са колегама на универзитетима у Брadford и Wulverhampton. У скоријем периоду то су сарадња са колегама на Истамбулском техничком универзитету, и на Северноисточном универзитету у Shenyang, P.R. of China . Кроз ове академске сарадње проф. Димировски је имао и улогу научног саветника или коментора више доктората и магистрата његових колега-партнера. По позиву током последњих 25 година Димировски је имао бројне дуже или краће академске посете са семинарима на универзитетима у Албургу, Анкари, Бохуму, Бредфорду, Бриселу, Дуисбургу, Хановеру, Истамбулу, Измиру, Линцу, Лисабону, Лондону, Љубљани, Марибору, Нишу, Новом Саду, Шењангу, Сплиту, Валенцији, Бечу, Загребу итд. У оквиру дуготрајне сарадње са академиком Вукобратовићем, Димировски је остварио и неколико кратких академских посета са семинарима у Институту Михаило Пупин у Београду.

Проф. Димировски је 1987. био један од неколико, тада југословенских, аутора чији су истраживачки резултати коментарисани и приказани у публикацијама M. G. Singh (Editor-in-Chief) Systems and Control Encyclopaedia: Theory, Technology, Applications published by Pergamon Press, Oxford, и International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC). Позван од професора Острема и М. Тома, проф. Димировски је учествовао у Научном програму о управљању комплексним системима (COSY) 1995.-99. Такође је организовао Годишњи здружени скуп COSY 1998. у Охриду и Скопју.

Током 30 година универзитетског рада Димировски је успешно водио два постдокторанта, 14 доктораната и 25 магистраната, као и више оф 250 дипломских радова. Сада велики број његових студената живи и ради у развијеним земљама света. Димировски је публиковао 5 поглавља у истраживачким монографијама и објавио више од 30 радова у журналима, као и више од 200 конференцијских радова само у зборницима IFAC и IEEE. Већина радова се односи на примене савремених управљачких и рачунарских метода и системског инженерства у сложеним објектима управљања. Био је председавајући за технички програм и редактор четири књиге зборника у IFAC Серијама и једне IЕЕЕ Серије.Димировски је дуго времена био ангажован у Југословенском савезу за ЕТАН, у три мандата Његов рад у ЕТАН-у нарочито се истакао у организовању ЕТАН-а у Охриду, у 1975. и 1991. и у Струги, 1983. Такође је био иницијатор и основач Друштва за ЕТАИ у 1981, тада део Југословенског савеза за ЕТАН, а сада Македонска IFAC NMO. Три пута је био председник ЕТАН. Био је један од оснивача IЕЕЕ Секције Републике Македоније, 1996. У два мандата је био председник Друштва инжењера Македоније, 1991-1998. Током 1988-1993 био је члан Извршног Савета Европске научне фондације, а током 1996–2002. био је у IFAC као вице-председавајући Техничког Комитета за земље у развоју (DECOM). Био је председавајући Техничког комитета IFAC за земље у развоју за мандат 2002–2005.

Проф. Димировски је добитник следећих награда за научноистраживачки рад: ЕТАН-а 1974. за аутоматско управљање и у 1990. за роботику и флексибилну аутоматизацију; Града Скопја у 1983. за примењене науке; Градоначелника града Брисела у 1993. “Истраживање у Бриселу”. Димировски је био један од позваних пленарних предавача на конференцијама ЕТАН-а, као и на неколико међународних и националних конференција у ранијој Југославији, а и у Бугарској, Србији, Македонији, Турској.
