АЛЕКСАНДАР СЕДМАК, дописни члан Академије Инжењерских Наука Србије (АИНС) од 2007. године, рођен је 2. маја 1955. године у Београду, од оца Стојана и мајке Матилде, рођене Јовановић. Завршио Математичку гимназију у Београду 1973. Дипломирао на Одсеку за хидроенергетику Машинског факултета у Београду, 1978, стекао звање магистра техничких наука 1982. такође на Машинском факултету у Београду. Докторирао на Математичком факултету у Београду 1988. године из области Механика.

- Више од 250 објављених радова, цца 90 на Међународним Конференцијама и у Међународним часописима. Бави се науком о материјалима, заваривањем, нумеричким методама, механиком материјала, механиком лома. Објавио преко 200 научних радова на домаћим и страним конференцијама и у часописима, од чега преко 20 у међународним часописима (17 у ISI часописима са 16 цитата)

- Ментор 13 докторских и 15 магистарских теза.

- Консултант за методу коначних елемената, примену механике лома и процену интегритета конструкција, проблеме материјала и заваривања, анализу лома, иновациони систем, технолошки развој.
